A ganglion cyst occurs when a sac fills with a gelatin like fluid, this fluid is produced from a joint capsule. “ganglion” means mass or lump that grows below the surface of the skin.
Ganglion cysts are benign masses. They often appear on the wrist and on the top of foot. Ganglion cysts can vary in size, get smaller or larger they even disappear and can come back later. The cause of a ganglion cyst is unknown.
Symptoms

- If the cyst is touching a nerve it can be accompanied by Tingling or burning
Diagnosis
To diagnose a ganglion cyst, A Podiatrist or foot and ankle surgeon will examine your foot. The lump should move freely under the skin. Often the surgeon will remove a small amount of fluid from the cyst for pathology. An x-ray or MRI may be ordered.
